Monday… what a day!
I got up at around 3.30am… I must admit I wasn’t quite ready when my friend Irina came to pick me up to go to the airport.
Anyways… we made it on time! More than on time…
I checked in… made it through customs aaaaaaand got unto the airplane. Well… hm… I guess I had a little bit too much hand luggage and couldn’t find any space to put my massive rucksack. All those people who got on right after me had to endure me – including the backpack – trying to make my way back to the flight attendant to pass it on to her. I made it… bright red… blushing… embarrased… aaaaanyways… got back to my seat and waited (and worried… what if they would forget the backpack… oh… and how about my suitcase… what if I would get to Peru but not my stuff?!) and this Pilot guy went out to the left wing to check some stuff, came back inside, just to do the wing thing again after a couple of minutes…
At around 7am he finally announced – with his pretty dutch accent (KLM) – that there was something wrong with the hydraulic… whatever it was should have reached 70% but we only got 62%. Oh man… I was about to tell him that 62% should be just fine! He said that they were trying to get someone to fix it… BUT it would take at least another hour! Flip me! My plane from Amsterdam to Lima was supposed to leave at 9 something am! Would we still make it on time?
Weird… I had to think of one of my colleagues… he’s pretty good at quoting Romans 8, 28… so… well… this actually calmed me down quite a bit – simply knowing that God is in control!
All of us went back to the mini Bremen Terminal… heading towards the KLM desk… those poor Ladies didn’t dare coming out of the office to meet us… all pretty unhappy with the current situation!
When they finally talked to us they got me onto a couple of other flights! Lufthansa this time… from Bremen to Frankfurt, Frankfurt to Caracas (where is Caracas??? 🙂 By now I know the answer!) and from Caracas to Lima…
The thing was that I had no chance of reaching Wollo, who was somewhere in between San Ramon and Lima… sitting in one of those night busses…
Anyways… he got the message that I’d be a couple of hours late!
To cut a long story short – not to mention me sitting to this Asian baby whose parents wouldn’t even look at me… and then getting another much nicer seat – unfortuantely not anymore next to the guy from Greece/Venezuela 🙂 – I got to Lima… and aaaaaall my luggage with me! Aaaand Wollo man was right there outside the gate waiting for me!
Oh what a day!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂
Yesterday, Tuesday we spend in Lima… a beautiful breakfast at this fancy Hotel close to the coast… some little shopping (like getting a suit tailored for Mr Schmidt himself) here and there (I bought this really cool mug esp. for my stay in San Ramon 🙂 Hey… I just love funky mugs!)… and at around 10pm we got unto the night bus to San Ramon.
These 8 hours on the bus were pretty nasty. I do usually get a little car sick and this time I bought those chewing gum thingies which are supposed to help you a great deal! Ha! No way… after eating one of those I felt worse than before! And poor Wollo still feels sick!
I’m really impressed by the peruvian Bus drivers… they are really good! But last night was a bit too much!
Well… so… here we are… Wollo has to preapre a couple of messages for the weekend. We will go to a youth conference in another town… and he still has to teach on Thursday and Friday! So the next couple of days, weeks acutally will be pretty busy!
I’ll keep you posted on what’s happening over here… pics will come soon!
🙂
